Rachael McCormick, PhD, LPC, LCDC, NCC is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor who specializes in providing mental health services for all ages and developmental levels. Rachael has worked in Inpatient Substance Use for many years, giving her experience to treat co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. With adults, she specializes in Mood Disorders, Substance Use Issues, and Trauma. Rachael has received training and supervision in the evidenced-based trauma technique EMDR. This allows her to address trauma issues effectively and efficiently. When working with adults, Rachael utilizes Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive-Behavioral, and a Person-Centered approach to counseling.
Rachael also specializes in working with children and teenagers. Her office has a play room where she is able to provide Play Therapy sessions for appropriate clients. Play Therapy is the most evidenced-based form of treatment for children. Her theoretical approach with young children is child-centered play therapy. As they grow older, she uses a variety of play therapy techniques and theoretical models. Children express themselves through their play. Play therapy provides a safe space for children to work through their struggles.
Rachael has received extensive training in Sandtray therapy, a technique that facilitates right-brain processing for those that find talk therapy challenging. She has conducted research and published journal articles on her adaptation of Sandtray therapy with those struggling with substance use issues. Rachael has presented at several National and State-Wide conferences on Sandtray Therapy. She also trains and supervises counselors in this technique.
